Hi Daj Member.
Of course you have friends. Because you are nice, you’re friendly, and you want to save our country from the no-bid-contract-giving, domestic-spying, bomb-bomb-bomb Iran singing, torture-promoting, Constitution-shredding government that the Republicans are offering.
But have you talked to your friends about the importance of voting in this year’s election? Because if you haven’t, now is the time. Okay, I can hear you groaning; “I don’t feel comfortable talking to my friends about politics.”
Fair enough. But all those things I mentioned in the first paragraph, they aren’t jokes. They are real policies that Republicans are already involved with. Add to that list the nomination of Supreme Court Justices who will revoke a woman’s right to choose, privatization of the internet, the codification of marriage between a man and a woman only, the politicization of the law, and the decimation of government agencies like FEMA, FDA, the EPA, the USDA and others that are meant to keep us, our families, and our friends safe. That’s what’s at stake if Democrats don’t win this November.
We may be Americans living abroad, but we are still Americans who love our country—warts and all—and we want to make it a better place for everyone to live in. As Secretary of DAJ, I’m asking you to do one small thing to help us reach that goal; tell your American friends, here in Japan, elsewhere or abroad, to register to vote at
Because friends don’t let friends neglect to vote.
Oh, and one more thing…if you DO like to talk about politics, volunteer at one of our many fun, exciting, satisfying Get Out The Vote events. Contact DAJ Chair Lauren Shannon at chair@demsjapan.jp.
Thanks,
Linda A. Gould

The Obama Bridge Project arrived in Hawaii, just as Barack returned to his home-state for a holiday. While he was resting on Oahu, on Kauai over 100 Americans--residents and tourists--gathered at one of the island's most historic bridges, Hanalei, for a giant photo op.
To see the final pix, visit our Flikr site: http://www.flickr.com/photos/23556339@N05
Local radio & TV covered the story--plus an article with color photo made the front page of the newspaper, which reportedly was handed to Barack Obama with his breakfast the next day. http://www.khnl.com/Global/story.asp?s=8829758

I wanted to share with you an article from the Chicago-based Daily Herald that mentioned our group. The article focuses on unity efforts both locally and nationally.
We still need all of your help to get your friends, family, neighbors and their friends involved and signed up for this group. It takes only a few minutes and just by signing up you are making your voices heard. This year we are going to take back the White House, but only if we all stand together.
It is time for all Americans to work towards common goals such as clean energy, universal healthcare, and better education. Now is that time to move in a new direction and to hold our leaders accountable for the actions they take.
Cheers,
Gary Mack

Call for questions for DA’s Convention Page – Young Dem Jake Klonoski
In the next week, I will be interviewing the DA Convention Page, Jake Klonoski, a Young Dem, active military, who was stationed in Afghanistan until last week. I’m opening up the questions to everyone—though I’d love to hear from other Young Dems in Japan in particular—and welcome you to submit your questions for Jake. I’ll be interviewing him again after the Convention.
Please put “Question for Jake” in the subject line and email your question to: ydajapan@gmail.com.
All questions welcome, though, of course, not all can/will be used. Thanks for your participation!
